Observations on a bus

I wrote this piece after (really) taking the bus one day...it's really short, but it sort of sums up how I feel on a bus. Is it just me, or do others get it too? :)

Taking the bus in the evening is an experience. Often, once you step in, you sense an oppressve sort of gloom, for no reason whatsoever, it seems. Perhaps it is caused by everyone's exhaustion after a long day, a desire to get home and relax. Perhaps it is caused by everyone hoping that the bus ride will end quickly. Perhaps it is the half-light at this in-between time. No one communicates, all absorbed in handphones, lost in their own world. The only sound is the low rumble of the engine. It may be just the sense that is in any place filled with people who don't know you...and don't want to.
In contrast, taking it in the morning is altogether different. No one really talks, and they are often still on their phones, but somehow the sun streaming through the wide windows makes the atmosphere cheery and bright. There is the anticipation of going somewhere. In addition, at this time there are many young children, sunny and smiling, their chatter to their guardian innocent and bringing happiness. It's amazing how much difference a bit of sunshine can make.

That is my observation on a bus...actually, public transport is good to get material as there's plenty of time to people-watch and find potential characters. As long as you don't STARE. :D This piece is short, but I still hope you like it!
