I cannot write a poem,
For though I've tried and tried,
The silly ideas come forth
While the good ones run and hide.
Stanzas are confusion,
Rhymes escape my clasp,
Sonnets, haikus, clerihews,
Their forms I cannot grasp.
I write a single word,
Then
I rack my brains, I pound the desk
But labour all in vain.
I cannot write a poem,
Who am I trying to kid?
I cannot write a poem...
But guess what? I just did!

I wonder how many aspiring poets out there feel like this. Sometimes, I look at the lines I have just written and despair of ever writing something of great value: a "Tyger" or a "Daffodils". At that time I could forget the profound stuff and go back to simplicity. I shouldn't bite off more than I can chew.
