Clerihews

I've just learnt about a poetic form called the clerihew. It is made of two rhyming couplets that talk about a celebrity and sometimes poke gentle fun at him/her. The first line is always the celebrity's name. While I don't usually stick too close to poetic forms, this was an interesting one. Here is an example by E.C. Bentley:
Edgar Allan Poe
Was passionately fond of roe.
He always liked to chew some
When writing anything gruesome.

And here is my take:

Abraham Lincoln
Had never been to Washington.
But to the Capital he went
And became the President.

And:

Thomas Jefferson
Liked to have a bit of fun.
He built a house, he drew a tree,
And wrote, “America, be free!”

(Thomas Jefferson liked architecture and botany).
